12/01/07 M&H Racer of The Month
Well well, it is the month of December and that means holiday season. M&H gave me an early Christmas present. I have become the Racer Of The Month for M&H Tires. My M&H tires are the best, couldn't ask for a better set of tires and such a great customer service. M&H was voted as one of the top 10 best high performance parts of all time.

11/29/07 Roll Cage
Today I drove my car over to the Berg's to drop off doug's jacket he lent to me during races in 2007. Then, I stopped by AJ Sims shop since it was right down the street and it was on my way. I made my way to Welding Works to have them start work on my roll cage. These are the same guys who i was introduced to at drag day (GREAT GUYS) grant and oly are doing my cage and are very interested in helping me out and having a good relationship with me. I am very glad to have them working on my car. Originally i thought when i said a 6 point cage i was looking for a roll bar setup, (main hoop, 2 to the frame horns, and 2 to the floor pan by my feet) well according to them the 6 point is a full roll cage, still 6 point but a different setup, a roll CAGE. now if i wanted to get my cage certified, it would be certified to 8.50! Awesome. I thought that my price for what i was getting was a good deal, until i found out what i was actually getting, it turned into a GREAT deal. The work is now being done to my car. i will update with pictures when i can.

10/28/07 - Drag Day
Worked until 1:30 the night before and went to sleep at 2a.m. only to wake up 3:30 hours later to get ready to go drag racing. The gates opened at 7 for drag day at irwindale and i was had planned to drive the car there. Everything i could think i might need (That i had) was loaded in the car: tools, gas can, timing light, helmet, jacket, neck collar, etc. I was ready to roll. 6:15 rolls around and im out the door, heading to my neighbors house down the street to meet up with him in his 74 bug so we can cruise to Irwindale together. On the road at 6:30 and the car is humming like a sewing machine. Cruising at about 65-70 at 4000RPM. Perfect. 30 miles later, we arrive at irwindale and i pull up next to a couple guys that i race in Super Gas and enjoy the surprised look on their faces when they see i am driving while they have their car on the trailer. :-)
First qualifying pass and i run out of fuel at the top end. get a 7.40 pass at 90MPH. I need to find a set of plugs becuase the plugs that are in the car now are fouled up a lil becuase of the large idle jet. I up the fuel pressure from 2.5 to 5 to see if that will fix my fuel problem. Second pass i am up against John Schuegger. At the 330 mark, my throttle cable comes off at the pedal so i coast past the traps and off of the track. Back to the pits for lunch as we were only able to get 2 runs in.
After lunch, I find out that with my 7.40 i made the cutoff for Quick 16. I drive my car up to the top of the lane and who is in front of me? Scott Bakken. He advanced against me in the first round in vegas becuase of my red light. Well the tables turn and he red lights, i advance to round 2.  Round 2, im up against Daniel Kurtzmen in his "Bad Behavior" car. He launches on me and i have to chase him down and i shifted a little too early from 2nd to 3rd and it was super close at the end of the track. Come around the turn out and see he is on the phone. i signal to him "who won?". He points to himself and i give a congrats nod. I find out i lost by 0.03...That's Racing and it was a close race. After the race i end up talking with the guys at Welding Works about the installation of a cage, then shawn moore jumps in my car and says he's driving it home. Fine by me, as i know it drives awesome. What happens as he gets in the freeway? he guns it...flips the fan belt and pulls to the side. Me not knowing that he flipped the fan belt gets out of his truck and hope nothing is broke. Well, good thing i carry an extra fan belt. Put that on and off to In'N'Out we go. Pulling into InNOut the fan belt falls off, he shredded it just by cruising it. Wrong size fan belt for the pulley. I go to Kragen and get the correct fan belt and i drove it home from INO. Now she is resting in my garage after the fun day we had :-)

09/03/07 My Sacramento Trip
camped along side silver bugget racing camp. My lil sis and dad came down from albany oregon to hang out for the weekend, so that was the 1 highlight of my weekend. Me, Shawn Moore, Matt Becker, Tywon, And Rick (raced a black bug in drkc, sorry i cant remember his last name) all hung out together. I was hoping the track conditions would be GREAT, thinking i might have a chance at getting an 11 second pass with my car. I paid my dues and didnt know what class i was going to be able to run in....SM or SG? i opted to make my first pass on the .400 light (first pass ever on a pro tree or even a .500 pro tree) so i lined up in the s/g lanes. I got a .285 reaction time (sleeping) then got a 7.46 1/8 mile and then a 12.26 ET at 96 mph. The car ran out of power right after the 1/8 mile. back to the pits...i couldnt figure out why it has no power. doug berg says to put a smaller air in it but i didnt have a smaller air so he came up with the idea to try putting a weber air jet on top of the air jets of my dellortos as they pressed in nicely. next pass, i was hoping that would work somehow...WORSE the car totally fell on its face after the 1/8 but i got a 7.41 in the 1/8 so it was only happening at the end of 3rd and 4th gear. My first pass to qualify became a 13.87 becuase i shut it off after the 1/8 thinking not to hurt the motor.Take the airs out and go back to the old way, people were saying its electrical, no fan belt on with an ign box is making the battery go dead after the 1/8. Doug Berg says to go outside of the gates becuase they dont close the gates til 10 and make a pass on the street.."you got registration and insurance on it right?"...so outside i went. First pass, put the fan belt on, same thing, came back in the track, then went back out again but this time without the ign box hooked up...same thing, i turn around to come back in but this time i get on it first and second but 3rd and 4th i lay on the throttle like i would if it was turboed and it doesnt nose over until i full throttle it. come back and change my mind of it being an electrical problem and now im 90% sure its electrical problem. here it is 9 o clock at night and doug says to bring the car over, we'll change plugs and check the floats.

ill skip all this info but we find that the dellortos have a very small fuel inlet of the carb top. ream it out and do a couple other things, thinking it might fix the problem of the fuel starvation but since we "caveman'd" the needle and seat, the seating surface is not in great condition now, since we used a philips to debur it hahaha and now the carbs boil over a tad. turn the fuel pump into a on/off switch rather then by the key and itll be ok for the weekend. 12:30 and off to bed we go.

wake up the next morning and get the switch hooked up. now lets see if this "HOPEFULLY" made things better at least for starvation. 2nd qualifying pass im next to joel mohr. i take off with my horrible reaction time as usual and see joel do a HUGE wheelie right next to me, 1st and 2nd gear...but wait, now that HUGE wheelie is coming after me, joel takes control of the situation and drives out of it, thank god...(first time ive had a "best seat" for a wheelie like that) and after the 1/8 the sucker didnt run out of power, it was making it..she was moving. i got out of the car and knew i got an 11 sec pass....11.80!!!!!!! I GOT MY 11 SEC PASS!!!  111 mph, FINALLY ran over 100 mph!!!!! i reached 3 goals so far that i have yet achieve since ive been racing....1) go in the 12's 2) go over 100 mph 3) go 11's. this weekend is awesome. the bad news, im still not qualified good enough for sg. 3rd, and last pass im with bakken so i think ok, i can hang with him and ill at least have a qualifying pass...finally got a decent reaction time and then i got my 4 goal 4)reach 7.20's.....7.29!!!!!!!!!! in the 1/8 at 91 mph. but i was out in front of bakken and i was short shifting and then let off the gas but still ran under the time, 11.72 holy crap.

ladder comes out and i qualified 17th with my 13.87 (i didnt qualify haha, im moving to PE). i label my car with an 11.65, if i break out AWESOME, if i lose AWESOME weekend, if i win AWESOME.  I line up against Hans Huber and he red lights so i know i won, time to run all out...got to the 1/8 at 7.33 at 93 MPH  goal 5 set 5)get 93 mph in the 1/8 :-)  and i get an 11.67 at 113 mph MY FASTEST AND BEST ET!!!!!!!!! i won round one, next is Paul "The Inspector" Logan (CLF Member) we both had bad reactions (in the .300's) but i was better off and ended up winning the round. now im onto the semi's, alot further then i was expecting,  this whole time im working the fuel pump on and off, on and off. Semi's - Im up against Richard Nunes, i do my burnout and then turn the pump off so it doesnt die on me creeping up to the line and then turn it on after the first bulb is lit...this time i forget to turn it back on and Richard is handed the win due to my forgetfulness. oh well i had an awesome weekend and met 6 of my goals that i wanted to achieve.
1 go in the 12s
2 go over 100 mph
3 go in the 11s
4 reach 7.20's
5 get 93 mph in the 1/8
6 get 11.60's

HUGE and i mean HUGE THANK YOU goes to Doug Berg for the help this weekend, without his help i wouldnt have been able to do this, this weekend. someone said to him, "you know your helping out the competition", and doug said so, i hope he does well.
also BIG THANKS to SRM Performance for proving people wrong...who says you cant do 11's on pump gas and dellortos? anyone up for a cruise? i feel like driving my car Wink
and cant forget, rick, matt, tywon, scheugger family, berg family and silver bugget crew for the help this weekend.

09/12/07 Second Day At The Track

OK, first off....there was alot of doubt from what the car is capable of and some people are pretty upset of what my car has done in the short amount of time. I am faster then some other people have ever been with my setup, faster then some race cars with my STREET car on pump gas, and easily passing times that people say i wouldnt be able to get to. Now this is another post from cal-look.com of my 2nd week at the track and its from SHAWN MOORES knowledge.

First off, BIG thanks to Shawn Moore for the support at the track, building the motor, and helping me with the car. Shawn has gotten the car where its at right now....and we havent even got to tuning haha...

last week i went to irwindale for the first time with the car and had no jets, no rev limiter/2 step, no e brakes for launching, no nothing...ran the car for the first time and got a 7.88 then got a 7.75 with a 88mph and knew the car has alot more in it.

so today i decided to go to the track again. saw some familiar faces; hector, buster john, tywon, and met a couple new vw people. Thanks for the PUMP GAS and the reamers. I bought a set of jets so we can do some tuning but couldnt find any reamers so i said screw it and went to the track anyways. shawn met up with me and we decided to make a pass the way it is and then check the plugs and decide after what to do for reaming out the jets or not. luckily sam from german auto (sorry if im wrong) had a reamer.

First pass of the night was a 7.43, a jump of over .30 from the week before. i was able to use the 2 step this time at 90 mph. UH OH looks like im making some mph. jumped up 2 mph as well. car launched good with a 1.555 60' but fealt like it was running out of fuel on the top end. so we decided to go find someone with reamers and luckily got some from sam. reamed the new jets out to 190 from 180 and got back in line

it was getting cooler, and lowered tire pressure to 18 this time around from 20. Last week i wanted to get in the 7s, DONE and quite easy. This week i wanted to get over 90 MPH and in the 7.3x's.
2nd pass i was lined up against a newer saleen mustang with slicks on the rear with front runners. a car that looked like it can run a number, and the guy fit the bill... I said he man how are you doing. he ignored me. so after that we lined up together and i launched well but got the big red eye on a .483, not too far off though. car launched good and the tires spun a tad but i got a 1.49 60'...and a 7.38 1/8 mile.....YES!!!! i got a 7.3x that i wanted but what adds to the excitement of that...i got that number at 91 mph...!!! sounds to me like a pump gas, driver, on dells, with 043 heads can MAKE SOME POWER, thanks to shawn moore.  I think 93 mph is VERY possible with this combo if i can pick up 3 mph with just a jet change and a 2 step.

09/02/07 First Day At The Track
Well after having to go to laguna beach to get my prints taken and start paperwork i finally made it to irwindale at 5:30 still with stuff to do before i could even tech.
- needed ductape or something to block off the holes in the dash (thanks buster and i still have your tape)
- I needed to mount a breather box and thought i bought enough hose but of course i didnt. (thanks derrick for going to the parts store for me)

an hour later, i finally get to tech. pass....YES time to go race, but no. one of my slicks has 12 pounds in it and the other, 20. time to go borrow some air.moments later, done. Lets go race now

I line up and finally get to make my first pass at 6:23. The car is sounding crisp and revs real quick
I start my burnout and the guy didnt even put me in the box and not much water was layed down but oh well... I dont have my e brake cables hooked up becuase they are too long so i try to launch off the linelock. very hard for me to get used it but i left at about 6 grand and did a wheelie about a foot tall and the car is motoring, shifts good but midway through 3rd gear it starts falling off so i thought shift to 4th and see if its the motor falling off but it was running out of fuel. got me a 1.64 60' and a 7.883 1/8 mile with 80.26 mph

back to the pits and i didnt have any jets and no reamer. the psi was at 3psi so shawn moore bumps it up to 6psi and the carbs take it without spilling over, cool. shawn does some more magic tuning and we bump the timing up from 28 to 32 and adjust my carbs and off to the lanes again. Next and final pass was at 8:20. I tried to leave a little higher in the rpm's but i am so not used to the linelock and i dont have a limiter to leave off of right now, i think i left at about 5500, but the car steers to the left towards the wall but i straightened it out and the sucker was motoring down the track now, making power. got a 1.653 60' and a 7.751 1/8 mile with 88.13 mph.

8 mph improvement just by small adjustments, i know this car has ALOT more in it. It revs EXTREMELY quick. 9 grand comes up quick and the valves started to float above 9 grand, it came on to me a little quick so i had to back off from 9k haha.

Shawn says we can get this car doing 93 mph in the 1/8 and 11.70 et in the 1/4 on pumpgas with my dells! we'll see but i dont doubt him one bit.
BIG Thanks to shawn moore as he has done way too much to get this car running. THANKS

08/15/07 - 08/21/07 Fontana Race Prep
Im hoping to have my car running by the time sunday comes around. today i got my whole fuel line, tank, filter, and pump all done up. finally. And I was able to make progress on my shortblock. finally got the deck height done and found the correct shim for the deck height wanted. and tomarrow is when the valve job gets done and heads go on...or so i hope. hopefully i can at least drive the car to fontana or even better race.

Day Later:
update: long block is done, im leaving shawns shop right now and im headnig back home to put it in my car.

Day 3:
UPDATE: ok, derrick paz just left my house. we ran into a couple set backs, me not having parts, putting in the dist drive gear with the washers on it, blah blah blah blah blah set back set back set back but we finally got the motor in and ready to crank for pressure........starter doesnt work.
tomorrow is a new day, hopefully one of you guys have a starter i can borrow :-) motors in and ready to be fired up.

Day 4, T-minus 3 days til the race
UPDATE: oil pressure was awesome, came right up. loving it. THANK YOU to ChooChoo, (buzz) for the starter. My broke self was getting sad this was getting more and more expensive. now time to put the rest of the motor together and fire it up.  Grin Grin Grin Grin

Day 5 T-minus 2 day til race: well everything is in but it wont fire Sad something's not right. its something to do with electrical or spark. i have a mallory box and im not sure if it is hooked up right

Night 5:
good news, i took the old school approach and just went around the ignition box, coil and electronic points only. the things started to fire but i had to shut it off because according to my grandpa.....its too late to break in a motor :-)  tomorrow morning ill break it in.

Day 6 T-minus 1 day:
well....today i broke it in.  look below and one of the pushrod tubes were leaking. so luckily they were the jaycee's so i go to pull it off and i find one of the pushrods bent. ummmm ok that sucks...then i go searching for another pushrod and no good.....shawn moore gives me a set but i had to cut them to length, time passes and now they are cut, back in the motor and i look at the inside of the pushrod tubes and find that 2 pushrods were about to rub a hole through the tube. hmmmmm i didnt think the pushrods would be doing this..so my guess is bent pushrods rubbing the tube, oh well so they are back in and ready to go. fire it up again, thing sounds crisp and revs real fast on the fk46... i take it for a little drive on beach blvd with the slicks and across the street from shawn's shop 2 chicks in bikinis were shooting for a car magazine, some rice crap so of course i do a little run right in front of them on beach, of course all the guys look and know that they're little car is slow. :-)

bad news: the brakes are not good enough, not enough pressure for me to race tomorrow, wont even hold the line lock, and my throttle cable will not stay on the pedal hook, when i get on it, it stays but then falls off. easy fix but im outta time. I have to go to work right now for the night. so my dream of making it tomorrow fades........

oh well at least she's running and now i can safely make adjustments. car runs good right now but i got some tuning to do.

SEE YOU TOMARROW :-)
